Fatima Sana Joins Perth Scorchers for 2026 WBBL
The Perth Scorchers have recruited Pakistan captain Fatima Sana for the 2026 Women’s Big Bash League, completing one of the most significant international signings in the league’s history. The 24-year-old all-rounder has signed a one-year deal and will be available for the first eight games of the season.
Fatima Sana will become only the second Pakistani player to compete in the WBBL. Nida Dar was the first to play 11 games for the Sydney Thunder in the 2019-20 WBBL season.
Sana had been nominated for the now-defunct overseas player draft the year before but was not selected by any of the eight Big Bash teams. Sana expressed her excitement about finally participating in the competition.
What has Fatima Sana accomplished in international cricket?
Fatima Sana made her debut for Pakistan during the team’s 2019 tour of South Africa, dismissing Hobart Hurricanes power-hitter Lizelle Lee for her first international wicket. She has now played 134 white-ball matches for Pakistan and has been the country’s permanent captain since the 2024 T20 World Cup.
The Karachi native became the first Pakistani woman to get an ICC award in 2021, when she was awarded ICC Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year. In 2026, she made history by striking the fastest fifty in women’s T20 internationals against Zimbabwe in May, scoring a half-century in just 15 balls. She grabbed 11 wickets in this year’s T20 World Cup and was named to the tournament’s winning team.
Why did the Perth Scorchers sign Fatima Sana?
Following the cancellation of the overseas player draft, the Perth Scorchers sought to sign Sana directly. The club’s recruitment team picked her as a player who fits their squad profile, citing her ability to contribute with both bat and ball at the top level with 134 white-ball appearances for Pakistan. Scorchers general manager Kade Harvey expressed excitement about what Sana will bring to the WACA Ground.
“Fatima is one of the most exciting young allrounders in international cricket, and we’re excited to have her join the Perth Scorchers for the next summer. At the age of 24,
