Hardik Pandya Injury Update: When Will He Return?

Hardik Pandya sustained a quadriceps injury after the 2026 IPL season finished. He is currently rehabilitating at the BCCI Center of Excellence in Bengaluru.

The all-rounder was dropped off India’s roster for the West Indies tour beginning September 27, 2026. As the squad prepares for the upcoming series, his absence leaves a significant gap in India’s middle-order batting and bowling depth.

After India’s series victory over Afghanistan this week, head coach Gautam Gambhir addressed Hardik Pandya’s injury issue. The coach clarified Pandya’s recovery timeline and the reasoning behind his removal from the team.

Hardik Pandya is currently unable to bowl ten overs in one day, according to Gambhir. Nonetheless, the two-time IPL champion captain has claimed that Hardik and Nitish Kumar Reddy may play together in the ODI team if he fully recovers.

Why was Hardik Pandya not included in the West Indies team?

Throughout his recuperation, Hardik Pandya has been working at full capacity with no difficulty; nevertheless, the medical staff at the Center of Excellence has advised him to cease bowling due to leg pain.

Although there have been no big issues with batting or mobility, the coaching and medical staff must give him the go-ahead before enabling him to return competitive cricket.

When will he return to international cricket?

Hardik Pandya is still awaiting final fitness clearance from the BCCI Center of Excellence, but he has been named to the India A squad for the one-day series against Australia A in Puducherry. If he completes a continuous training block without any setbacks, he is expected to return in late September or early October.

In Pandya’s absence, Nitish Kumar Reddy has taken over the position of all-rounder. During the third Twenty20 International against Afghanistan in New Delhi, Reddy shown his ability to contribute with both bat and ball, collecting three wickets for 25 runs in four overs.

Pandya’s most recent competitive game was for the Mumbai Indians on May 24, 2026, in the Indian Premier League. His most recent international appearance came in March, when he faced New Zealand in the 2026 T20 World Cup final.
