Tridents Rout Amazon Warriors to Book Eliminator Against Kingsmen
Barbados Tridents’ bowling attack put in a clinical display in Bridgetown on Sunday to bowl Guyana Amazon Warriors out for just 99, before romping home by six wickets with almost five overs to spare. That result booked Tridents a place in the Caribbean Premier League 2026 Eliminator, where they will face Jamaica Kingsmen.
The loss hardly impacted Guyana’s standing in the event. Amazon Warriors were long since confirmed in top spot at the end of the league phase, while Antigua and Barbuda Falcons slotted home second. Tridents finished in third while Kingsmen in fourth spot. Warriors will now square off against the Falcons for a place in Qualifier 1, as the playoff matches are set to be staged in Bridgetown.
Tridents decided to bowl and they wasted no time in setting their intention. Afghanistan left-arm spinner AM Ghazanfar bowled a remarkable third over during which he took 3rdiplies in 4 balls. After starting the collapse, Mavendra Dindyal was bamboozled by Quinton de Kock before Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer fell for 15 from three overs.
That early collapse was one from which Guyana never recovered. They scored mere 30 runs during the powerplay and at no point in time did they look like building a partnership. Struggling to build some partnerships, opener Glenn Phillips did his best but managed just 24 off 23 before George Linde ended his attendance at the crease.
In his spell of four overs, Linde was brilliant and gave away 13 runs and took two wickets into the account. The Warriors’ lower order buckled under pressure as Johann Layne did the damage with 3 for 14. Phillips remained their highest run-scorer as their innings ended at 99 in the 18.1 overs.
It was not going to be a chase that posed any real test and Brandon King made sure of avoiding any late drama. Even after four wickets fell, the Tridents opener remained not out at 44 off only 42 balls and held the innings together.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz gave Guyana a glimmer of hope when he took two wickets, but he ended up with only nine in his three matches at the tournament. But King did have support in the form of Shadrack Descarte’s 32 off 20 balls. The 41-run association from 30 deliveries sealed the deal.
Aided by King and Kevlon Anderson, the Tridents reached their target with over 5 overs to spare, claiming victory and some much-needed momentum into the playoffs.
