Yuvraj Singh Backs Advance Preparation in South Africa Ahead of ODI World Cup
To give the Indian squad ample time to prepare, Yuvraj Singh has suggested that they go to South Africa one month before the 2027 ODI World Cup. The competition will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia from October 4 to November 21, 2027. There will be 57 matches between 14 teams.
Yuvraj Singh, who earned Player of the Tournament in India’s 2011 ODI World Cup win, has been open about the team’s preparations for the competition. He concluded that arriving early in the host country would allow the squad adequate time to assimilate to the local atmosphere and prepare for the competition.
Yuvraj Singh remarked that the team should spend one month in South Africa preparing for the World Cup.
This proposal reflects his experience winning the World Cup and his understanding of the difficulty of international competitions held in foreign countries.
Yuvraj has stressed the importance of consistency in squad selection and providing players with adequate game time prior to the event, in addition to the date of arrival.
He underlined that the current cricket calendar contains more Twenty20 matches than 50-over matches, making preparation tough. Yuvraj stressed that regardless of group size, every player requires ample opportunities to improve their form and match fitness ahead to a World Cup.
