Yash Dayal Set to Play for Uttar Pradesh in Ranji Trophy

After missing competitive cricket since the IPL 2025 final in June 2025, left-arm spinner Yash Dayal has been named to the Uttar Pradesh Ranji Trophy squad for the 2026-2027 season. Dayal has not appeared in a competitive match since being a member of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru winning squad in the final.

Uttar Pradesh will face Bihar on October 11 at Rajgir International Stadium in the Ranji Trophy 2026-27 season. Aryan Juyal is the team’s wicketkeeper and captain, with 16 members. Zeeshan Ansari, a spinner who last represented the state in the format in 2020, is another notable returnee to the UP Ranji team after a six-year absence.

Why is Uttar Pradesh’s bowling assault dependent on Yash Dayal’s return?

Yash Dayal’s return is one of the most anticipated news from the UP team release, as he has not played competitive cricket since June 2025. For any pace bowler, such a long period away from game action is noteworthy, and club management will be interested in his fitness and form heading into the red-ball season.

Uttar Pradesh now boasts a left-arm pacer with expertise in high-pressure situations courtesy to his participation in an IPL title-winning campaign. Yash Dayal’s availability offers variety to UP’s bowling resources for the Ranji Trophy, as left-arm seamers are a scarce resource in domestic cricket.

What other options for the UP squad for 2026-2027 stand out?

Along with Yash Dayal’s induction, Zeeshan Ansari’s recall is one of the team’s more important selection decisions. The spinner has not competed at the state level in six years, last representing Uttar Pradesh in Ranji Trophy cricket in 2020. Based on his reinstatement into the club, it appears that management regards his red-ball credentials for the forthcoming season.

In addition to captain Aryan Juyal, the team has well-known domestic players such as Rinku Singh and Priyam Garg. As they prepare to face Bihar in their first encounter on October 11, Uttar Pradesh has a well-rounded lineup thanks to a mix of returning players and seasoned performances.
