Mohammed Saifuddin Misses Asian Games 2026 After Hamstring Injury
After suffering a right hamstring injury during a practice session on September 19, 2026, Mohammed Saifuddin has been disqualified from the Asian Games 2026. His absence for the competition was subsequently communicated to the Bangladesh Olympic Association by the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
The degree of the injuries was verified by an MRI and physical examination. After evaluating Saifuddin, team physiotherapist Bayjedul Islam Khan concluded that he would require about three weeks of recuperation before being able to play again.
Subject to consent from the Games authority, the BCB has stated that it will select a substitute for Saifuddin. As of September 22, 2026, no replacement has been announced.
How did the damage happen, and how long will it take to heal?
When Mohammed Saifuddin initially experienced pain in his right hamstring while bowling, he was participating in a standard practice session. A physical examination and an MRI scan were then used to evaluate the injuries, and both tests verified the diagnosis.
Mohammed Saifuddin will not be able to participate in any portion of the Asian Games 2026, which take place from September 24 to October 3, 2026, due to the roughly three-week recovery period.
The BCB has officially informed the Bangladesh Olympic Association of his unavailability and is attempting to get the Games administration to approve a substitute.
What does Mohammed Saifuddin absence signify for Bangladesh, and what is his recent playing record?
Mohammed Saifuddin last played for the Bangladeshi national team in July 2026 when they traveled to Zimbabwe. He recently participated in an A series against South Africa, playing in two one-day matches and one unofficial Test, putting him in the running for the Asian Games team.
Bangladesh’s Asian Games quarterfinal match is set for September 29, 2026. Bangladesh now has 14 players in their roster while a replacement is confirmed due to Saifuddin’s absence.
