Mohit Sharma on Nitish Kumar Reddy: ‘Keep Our Expectations Low’

Mohit Sharma has warned against drawing direct parallels between Nitish Kumar Reddy and Hardik Pandya, claiming that such analogies create unrealistic expectations for the young all-rounder.

Mohit Sharma emphasized that the two players have distinct batting styles and skill sets, and that Reddy should be judged on his own merits rather than against Pandya’s proven record.

Speaking on the matter, Mohit Sharma expressed his concerns about how continuous comparisons influence perceptions of Reddy’s performance.

Expectations vary depending on the skill set.

Mohit Sharma went on to describe the differences between the various types of all-rounders in international cricket.

He stated that teams often prefer all-rounders with a specific skill balance, with bowling being the major task and batting providing secondary importance. The Indian cricketer insisted that Reddy meets the expectations set for his role when examined individually rather than in comparison to existing stars.

Despite injury setbacks, team management remains supportive.

Mohammad Kaif shared his thoughts on Reddy’s growth within the Indian team framework. Kaif emphasized the club management’s dedication to developing Reddy’s skill while understanding the hurdles caused by frequent ailments.

The former Indian batsman stated that Reddy has never been sacked from the squad and has only missed matches owing to fitness issues.

Reddy returned to the Indian squad for the Afghanistan T20I series, having missed recent matches owing to injury. During the series, he displayed his bowling talent by taking three wickets in the second and third T20Is against Afghanistan.

In the IPL 2026 season, Reddy made 302 runs with a strike rate of 171.59 and took eight wickets, demonstrating his domestic all-round ability.
